Unless you're building a brand new house RIGHT NOW, chances are it's significantly cheaper and much quicker to deploy a wireless (WiFi) network in your home.
A wireless network device can cost as little as $30. and depending on the number of computers and devices (e.g. printers) in you home, a complete setup could be as little as $70. WiFi cards for laptops are generally more expensive (~$50.) because of their small size but make being on-line while watching TV or sitting outside on the porch much more enjoyable without being chained to a desk inside.
These devices also generally come with a built-in firewall. A computer firewall acts very much like the firewall in your car (that space between the driver and passenger and the engine compartment); in keeping the danger out. It allows you the freedom to go out of your house to the Internet anywhere you like but STOPS people from coming back inside your home and accessing your pictures, documents and other valuable resources on your computer.
